I decided to complete a quick pen & ink piece to get my eye and hand back into doing things. So I thought a quick submission for the theme of the month over at John Howe’s website was in order. This months theme is Head in the Clouds which is handy for someone living in Cumbria, I mean, we have our fair share of clouds to use as reference pieces π
Anyway, not having time to complete a serious study of clouds, I scribbled something a bit quicker, first of all I completed the pen & ink version…
I then thought to myself, hmmm perhaps I should colour this pen & ink piece…..
I was nearly finished tinting the piece in Photoshop when Julie pointed out I’d spent around three times longer in Photoshop than I did with the pen & ink π Now I need to do something a bit more serious.
The colour version looks much better. π
You know, when I first saw this something sprang to my mind that this could be the beginnings of a Gary Larson cartoon, or some such throw back cartoon that I now have no memory of.
Mind you, if I’d kept up my (simply drawn) cartooning of donkey’s years ago I might have eventually learned to draw as good as you. Btw, I really like that little house snuggled in amongst the trees like that. π
P.S. I will try to find some of my old cartoons and give you a link once they’re up, so that you’ll know what sort of a (cr*p) cartoonist I was. π
Thanks James, I’d be interested to see some of your old cartoons; I was originally aiming towards a Victorian photo style colour tint but ended up with something a bit different π Strange how things don’t always turn out as you intend them to.
