Peel Castle

We decided to spend the night at Peel Castle to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and booked the attic apartment, after what feels like weeks of rain the weather cleared for our trip and after a pleasant drive we arrived at the castle.

The castle was purchased in 2004 by Karen & Francis who renovated it from little more than a pile of stone to a luxurious bed and breakfast (the renovation was featured on the Channel 4 show Grand Designs). We opted to stay in the attic apartment which has its own kitchen (so we could both have a drink with our evening meal without worrying about finding a taxi) and a balcony which we used regularly as the sky was so clear and free of light polution. We delayed unpacking so we could watch the sun set πŸ˜‰

Francis brought us a bucket of ice so we could chill the champagne to the right temperature – essential for a night at the top of a castle…

We sampled some of the champagne on the balcony as we watched Orion pop over a nearby hill.

The following morning we watched Venus pop over the same hill.

And carried on watching the sunrise πŸ˜‰

The breakfast was excellent given that we’re both vegetarian it’s always nice to be well catered for, so after a large mushroom omelette we had a wander outside before setting off for home.

We’ll be back πŸ™‚
