Machair Ghallghaidhealaibh

Our second day out from the caravan by Luce Bay and we headed to Machars in search of standing stones and a few more beaches to wander on. The first stop (after the beach) was the Drumtroddan Standing Stones. We then went to look for St. Ninian’s Church at the Isle of Whithorn, saw the memorial to the crew of the Solway Harvester and yes, wandered on a beach.

Na Rannaibh

Our first day in Scotland started nice and early (thanks to Hugo pestering us to go out), so we had a wander on the beach as the Sun slowly mades it way above the horizon. Wander over and we had a nice breakfast looking out over Luce Bay and decided to have a drive around the Rhins of Galloway. Avebury

Although we had never been to Uffington White Horse before we had visited Avebury many years ago now. I don’t recall the parking being so expensive last time we visited (£7 this time unless you joined the National Trust on the spot :-/), but since we were there we rifled through the change bag, parked and went for a wander. Uffington White Horse

For some reason we both thought we’d visited Uffington White Horse the last time we were in the area, but as we drove towards it we realised that we’d never seen it in real life before. Parking up we had to run the gauntlet of the National Trust warden trying to get us to sign up as members so we could park for free :-/ but we resisted and paid to park instead.
