Turning from the dawn
I went out this morning with the intention of taking a few dawn sky photographs, as I do from time to time, and managed a few shots and, I was happier with the detail in this small panoramic though than the close up shots I took -
Having my camera in hand I decided to wander for a while and spotted a layer of mist forming by a small clump of trees -
After this I was about to return to the house when I noticed how nice the Moon looked riding high in the sky with some contrasting clouds for company -
I’m glad I wandered on a bit longer now
Changes
It’s interesting to see the weather change around you, though normally I like to be hidden away indoors when it’s turning bad
Anyway, the day started out fine with a nice touch of mist rising from the River Eden, so I took a few snaps by Langwathby.
Then it all clouded over and looked a little boring for a while – well, boring for landscape photographs or sketching that is. We ended up having a run down to Kirkby Lonsdale, I took the camera along more out of hope than anything else not expecting much from the weather to allow photographs. When we arrived in Kirkby Lonsdale the weather had changed again and the clouds had broken to reveal a deep blue sky dotted with clouds. So we had a wander round the back of St. Marys Church to look at Ruskin’s View. It was a painting of this view by Turner that led Ruskin to comment ‘I do not know in all my own country, still less in France or Italy, a place more naturally divine’
The weather sadly did not stay like this for long and shortly afterwards we were dashing back towards the car getting soaked, the roads turned to rivers and I was glad for that fleeting glance at a place so naturally divine.
Going Pear Shaped
I went out this morning nice and early as there was mist forming quite nicely in the Eden valley, my intention had been to capture a bit of the early morning summer atmosphere. Not far from the house I paused and started taking photographs, and it was indeed a pleasant morning to potter about with the camera taking both moody misty shots and shots that I could only describe as desolate.

So why is my favourite photograph of the morning one of a scarecrow in the field next to our house?
Just goes to show that even a well planned photo shoot can go a little pear shaped at times.
Dawn at Long Meg
This morning we had a quick run down to Long Meg And Her Daughters stone circle for a wander and maybe take a photograph or two. I had to Photoshop the images to lighten Long Meg and the foreground grass a little
Sometime you just have to get down low for a photograph, pity it was rather cold this morning…
