Returning
My ongoing obsession with painting Rivendell, based on Lauterbrunnen, continues 😉 This is version number…. okay I’ve stopped counting, the previous version I finished early December last year is still in the file marked ‘what was I thinking’. What I really need to do in order to paint Rivendell as I see it in my head is to learn French, take six months off work, then move into Lauterbrunnen with a few sketch pads and a gallon or two of paint.

I sat down to practice some watercolour techniques, so it was only logical that I taped a piece of paper to the board and started a pen and ink drawing with a Tolkien theme 😉 I was going to add a colour tint but decided to leave it as it is.

I came up with this idea of painting scenes from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings with the night sky as it would actually appear on that date and time, so I went through LOTRs and marked up all the references to when the night sky was visible, there’s quite a few references 😉 Anyway, I decided for the first illustration to work out how the sky would have looked as the left Bag End, then I painted the scene – the sky took far too long, then,…
