Stars, Planets, and a bit of Aurora

I set off to work a few minutes early this morning so I could take a couple of photographs. Is it that time already

Standing in the garden at 0400hrs today I stood for a moment and gazed at the stars, then I decided to cut short my morning coffee in order to take a couple of photographs, well you never know when the skies will be clear again. As I focussed the camera I noticed a couple of stars poking above the Pennines and realized that it was Orion making an appearance, I hadn’t realized the season was that far on. Planetary Magic

This evening we had a quick run out to Long Meg stone circle, yes, we were just there the other day but Venus & Jupiter were looking good and the Moon was breaking through the cloud. So thick jacket on, we parked up and I wandered about the stones. It’s hard to relate the sense of magic and wonder you feel wandering around a moonlit stone circle with the stars and planets above. Reflected Light

I took some photographs of the Moon yesterday illuminating some mist in the valley, and I found myself thinking about how much the Sun influences our lives. After all the light from the Moon illuminating that mist originated in the Sun, the light itself has a very different property when it’s reflected from the Moon. I’m not talking about the physical make up of the reflected light itself, I’m talking about the way Moonlight gives a distinct magical feel to a scene, especially when you add mist into the mix…
