I thought I’d paint another landscape as it’s been a while since I’ve worked on one, so I decided on the view looking down over Buttermere and Crummock. The intention when I started was to block a few areas in with acrylic to get the feel of the piece then finish it in oils, in the end I used acrylics for the entire painting as it was ‘working’ at the time. As with the majority of paintings I’ve completed for the last few years has soon as I signed it I didn’t like it Weird how the brain works sometimes.

I have a large list of things to illustrate, a large list of landscapes to paint, another large list of digital projects to work on, oh, and there’s some glass work to fit in as well. However, the other day looking at my to-do projects didn’t inspire me so I asked Julie what I should work on next, she suggested Sourmilk Gill which is an impressive sight next to Buttermere in the Lake District. I was about to tape down some watercolour board for a painting when I changed my mind and picked up a piece of Bristol paper and a .2mm pen

…..we’re almost there, we’ve almost finished the move, just a few boxes to unpack and a few bookcases to make and we’ll be sorted, I think….

Anyway, I’ve not had much chance to get the camera out lately which has been annoying me, almost as much as the limited time I’ve had with a pencil Still, I did manage a few photographs at the weekend. This is one of them, most folk will know the view well, or at least be familiar with it – Warnscale Bottom with Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks looking rather impressive This one will be available as a limited edition print, the final size and numbers available will be sorted at a later date, but if you’re interested get in touch.

High Snockrigg (again)

Following the sketch of High Snockrigg and Others (link) I decided to try a small watercolour of the scene.

It became a little frustrating not getting chance to properly do all the trees as I kept pausing to do other things, next time I may do the smaller trees differently, but generally I thought the result was acceptable.
