Driving home a week or so ago we paused just outside Penrith as the sky was heavy and the light was nice, this one was worth printing out in the end.

Just trying to platy catch up, this is from a couple of weeks ago when we were driving through the Lakes. We dropped down Honister Pass and the light was changing all the time with clouds rolling across the fell tops, near the bottom of the pass we parked up to give Hugo a bit of fresh air and a wander about as we did so the light kept breaking through the cloud and hitting High Crag and High Stile, so I took a few photographs. This is the one I particularly liked from the day and decided to make a print of it (it’ll be available as a limited edition print soon).

It’s taken a while, but I’ve finally got something to post on here it feels like we’ve have weeks of grey skies, rain, snow, wind…. well in truth we have, but at least yesterday I managed to get out in between rain/sleet/wind to take a quick photograph – yes it did feel good to get out with the camera but sadly I couldn’t repeat the experience today. So, here’s how the cloud looked over the Pennines yesterday afternoon.

Brooding

I nearly didn’t take the camera out earlier as the skies looked like rain was imminent, but there were some nice patches of light flitting about so I decided to risk it. Most of the wander the camera was firmly tucked away however I noticed a nice bit of light playing across the field with some brooding clouds above…

I went out to try the new filter* on the camera again (I’d tried it yesterday but didn’t like the results (operator error I’m afraid)), anyway, I plodded up the lane beside the field and thought the open gate with the crop wafting in the wind was quite an interesting effect so set up and I was much happier with the result….

I took the plunge and purchased a new camera, of course the day it arrived there was grey cloud and no light to really play with the camera, then around 2100hrs the clouds broke just a little and I managed to grab one photograph of the pond.

Watching the weather

The weather has been quite changeable the last few days, well, it’s changed between cold and colder anyway, I was watching the clouds the other day and popped out to take a particularly impressive band as it rolled over.

A couple of days later and the frost was thick on the ground, having just worked a night shift I wasn’t able to take as many photographs as I’d have liked but managed one

Fvgit inreparabile tempvs – well time may be irretrievable, but at least we can record some of it as it passes us by. I was out yesterday for my morning wander before the Sun popped up over the Pennines, it was pleasant wandering in the moonlight with the wind shaking the trees just enough to dislodge a leaf or two and make the clouds hurtle by. So enjoyable was the experience that I returned home, grabbed the camera and tripod and decided to take a couple of photographs…

I know I shouldn’t have left the light on, but it was dark and Hugo (the dog) may have been frightened all alone This next one has a nice colour to it, until you realize that the orange/yellow has nothing to do with the approaching dawn but everything to do with light pollution illuminating the clouds.

After taking a few photographs I decided to try a small timelapse, it’s been a while since I tried one but it was fun to set the camera up and let it run for a while.
