I started a reference sketch in photoshop for a painting, it was supposed to be a watercolour yet I ended up finishing it in Photoshop – not sure it’s what I wanted to achieve but it’s done, for now

Diverting

Driving home from my last night shift of the week and the sunrise was really distracting, the desire to sleep was pushed aside by the desire to take a photograph or two. A short distance from work the Sun was already poking above the Pennines but there was little in the foreground that was working so I carried on resigned to the fact that it wasn’t working today. Then I realised that as I went down towards the river Eden the Sun wouldn’t be as high in the sky so I drove round to the bridge over the Eden at Lazonby and managed a few shots before deciding I really should go home

I have a for a while been tinkering with a digital piece for the theme of the month ‘competition’ over on John Howe‘s website, the them Dawn’s Early Light was one that appealed to me but the digital piece really wasn’t working out as I wanted it to. For some reason the line from Lord of the Rings kept going through my head “Yet dawn is ever the hope of men,” so I decided to play with type instead of banging my head against the wall with the failing digital doodle.

Well, it was almost a good start, the thermometer on the car read -7.5C when I jumped in to go shopping this morning, and whilst the car started fine the brakes had decided to freeze on :-/ anyway, the delay in setting off meant I caught the dawn sky over the Pennines

I’ve not had much time of late to photograph anything, or update my website, hopefully 2015 will allow a few more free hours to play in Anyway, this morning we took an early wander around the pond and I tried to photograph some of the textures I noticed frozen into the surface.

I then noticed the frost on the planks leading to the boathouse…

Our breakfast this morning was cut short when we noticed the sky turn an interesting colour, so we grabbed our wellies, camera, and popped down to the pond for a quick photograph.
