I was playing with ideas for a poster to feature some of our favourite typefaces, it was quite interesting looking up details of each of the particular typefaces, now all I need to do is mount and frame it. It’ll be available as a limited edition print on a nice quality paper and as a bulk print on a lighter weight paper. (For some reason it has come out a bit ‘red’ when it was saved for the web’).

Well then…
A few days ago I noticed my website was no longer online, at first I thought they were doing work on the server or they had issues of some sort. Then I noticed that it was only my website which was missing, or more precisely the directory where my website usually resided was no longer there. After a mild session of cursing and some rather colourful language I did some digging. Not only was the directory missing but all the logs which I’d normally trawl through to see who had done what was also missing.
Luckily the database for the website was pretty much untouched, and I had backups of all the images associated with the site. Sadly the backup I had for the site theme doesn’t work for some reason but I can live with having to redesign the site π

W. N. Hodgson – Website
This week I’ve been working on a bit of web design, it’s a site for a book ‘Climb Black Sail For Me’ based on the far too brief a life of W. N. Hodgson.
It was a fun site to work on, especially trying to create a pen and ink map for the header – actually it was one of those ideas that comes to you and you have to stop everything else until you’ve tried it out π glad I did now. Hopefully the website will spark plenty of interest in the book and we’ll see it on the shelves sometime soon, it’s such a shame that people like W. N. Hodgson who in the midst of fighting for his Country in some horrific conditions can still create wonderful poetry yet is not all that well known. When the weather is right I plan on wandering up Black Sail myself π If you have a moment though, pass on the link to this site you everyone you know http://www.w-n-hodgson.info/ and perhaps it won’t be too long until the book is on the shelves. -
Completion
When I’m working on a site it’s fun, it’s also a case of looking forward to the time when it’s finished and I can move onto the next project. I was happy to complete this site Dai’s Forge (edit – this site is now no longer hosted or maintained by me) because it was the first time I’d had to change a site from a framed version which did not work well on widescreen monitors; and also the first time I’d had to integrate php and tie it in with a mysql database. So it’s a small beginning but at least the site works from a technical viewpoint. I just have to go back and tweak a few things graphically.
