When we visited Long Meg last year and took a few photos (here), I intended to use a few of them as references for paintings, it took a while longer than anticipated to start but that’s the way things go anyway, this one may be finished. Or at least, it’s finished for now…

Stones in the mist

I’ve been tinkering with some ideas of standing stones poking out of the mist, mainly trying to get some ideas together for a painting, still a way to go but it’s fun playing with different ideas.

Sketching The Stones

I’ve been trying to use more carbon is my sketches and so I tried, Royal Sovereign Wolff’s Carbon (2B) for a couple of sketches. They’re quite nice to use but hard to get a scan of the finished piece that looks anything like the original I also tried out the Derwent Artists Sketching Pencil (Midnight) for one of the sketches which was also nice to use but I found it a little waxy. Anyway, the first and the third sketch were made using the Wolff’s Carbon pencil and the middle one using a Derwent. I was working A4 but found it a little restrictive and need to use larger paper to properly try them out.
