I was playing with ideas for a poster to feature some of our favourite typefaces, it was quite interesting looking up details of each of the particular typefaces, now all I need to do is mount and frame it. It’ll be available as a limited edition print on a nice quality paper and as a bulk print on a lighter weight paper. (For some reason it has come out a bit ‘red’ when it was saved for the web’).

I have a for a while been tinkering with a digital piece for the theme of the month ‘competition’ over on John Howe‘s website, the them Dawn’s Early Light was one that appealed to me but the digital piece really wasn’t working out as I wanted it to. For some reason the line from Lord of the Rings kept going through my head “Yet dawn is ever the hope of men,” so I decided to play with type instead of banging my head against the wall with the failing digital doodle.

Dark Dreams

Many moons ago whilst playing with type I worked on the quote from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings “Dark have been my dreams of late”, but it bugged me, or at least when I see the image it doesn’t look right to me. Not sure why but it just wasn’t right at all. So, this morning as I had a few things to do I decided to ignore everything else and play with type for a while. Still not sure if I’ve got it right but I know it’s getting closer, maybe I need to add a few “dark dreams” to the background, or just get out more So here’s the new version, there could of course be another in three years time

Grimm Times

I was trying to get my head around the theme of the month over on John Howe’s website which is ‘Brothers Grimm’ and I started reading a few of the stories, then I went through the stories the Grimm brothers had churned out and thought there was enough titles to work into a bit of typography….

Not quite sure what I think of it yet.

I’ve been playing with type lately, it’s something I used to do years ago and fell out of the habit, but since downloading a trial of QuarkXPress I’ve got back into it So I asked around for some quotes/words that I could use (rather than use my own favourite quotes which everyone is probably sick of hearing). So here’s two versions of a latin quote, and one Moo!
