I went out early to see the coming together of Jupiter and Venus, okay, they didn’t quite come together but they were quite close from where I saw them from anyone, before they popped over the Pennines I took a photo of Orion over the pond…

Nice way to start the year

The 1st of January saw a nice alignment of Mars, Neptune and Venus along with the Moon just to keep them company. Not sure I picked Neptune up on these two shots, I didn’t enlarge and tweak them to see

Whilst out for an early morning wander with Hugo I noticed Venus, Mars and Jupiter rising above the Pennines with the almost full Moon illuminating the foreground, so I wandered back to the house for the camera and tripod and went back out

Well, it’s in the first photo somewhere Anyway, I was off out to the shop this morning when I noticed a nice alignment of planets so grabbed the camera for a quick photo.

Stars, Planets, and a bit of Aurora

I set off to work a few minutes early this morning so I could take a couple of photographs. I’d been reading reports of the aurora borealis when I woke and decided to try and spot some (I’d have stayed up to watch it during the night but I need my beauty sleep before a long day at work ;-)). The aurora wasn’t really visible to the naked eye when I got to the car park, though every now and then I caught a glimpse. Venus however looked really bright above the Pennines.

I took a few photographs looking North and East before turning to photograph Jupiter above Orion.

When I looked at the photographs a while later on the camera’s LCD screen I noticed a bit of glow on some of the photographs, which became much more noticeable when I put them on the computer at home, I had captured a bit of aurora after all

Is it that time already

Standing in the garden at 0400hrs today I stood for a moment and gazed at the stars, then I decided to cut short my morning coffee in order to take a couple of photographs, well you never know when the skies will be clear again. As I focussed the camera I noticed a couple of stars poking above the Pennines and realized that it was Orion making an appearance, I hadn’t realized the season was that far on. Anyway, here’s Jupiter and Venus above the Pennines, lets hope for plenty more clear skies.

This evening we had a quick run out to Long Meg stone circle, yes, we were just there the other day but Venus & Jupiter were looking good and the Moon was breaking through the cloud. So thick jacket on, we parked up and I wandered about the stones. It’s hard to relate the sense of magic and wonder you feel wandering around a moonlit stone circle with the stars and planets above. To add to the effect the owls started to twit and twoo in the nearby wood

So, I managed a few photographs – mainly of Venus & Jupiter above the stones.
