I started a doodle of the Pikes of Langdale, I enjoyed painting the sky and quite liked how it looked when it was dry. It had a bit more about it than my normal skies sadly as I painted the foreground things went a bit awry and I really didn’t enjoy painting it. Still, you live and learn

Slater’s Bridge

We’ve been offline for a while (thanks to a tree snapping the fibre during a storm), so couldn’t post this when I finished it.

I started this a couple of weeks ago, along the way I changed direction quite a few times – mainly because of the gaps between painting when I’d forget where I was going with it (I don’t think distraction free painting time exists ;-)). Thinking back to when I started this painting I was more interested in painting the water than anything else, though I spent more time on the leaves than the water, I also probably spent more time on the bridge than considering how the water should look – not that I’m overthinking things at all.

For some reason the scan has come out with some odd colour casts and tinges, I’ll have to try and rescan it.

Still practicing, and again I picked a reference photo at random, this time it ended up with a photo I took of Julie back in May when it was a bit sunnier and a bit warmer

I enjoyed painting the folds in the dress, I disliked painting hair, but then I always dislike painting hair for some reason.

It feels like a while since I’ve managed to paint anything so I decided that I should practice a little, I wasn’t wanting to paint anything overly complicated on in depth but just wanted to get some paint down and break a little creative mind block The easiest solution I came up with was to gather a load of reference images together and pick one at random then have a go at it. So, I ended up with Crummock water and some reflections to attempt…

Back into the valley

After the smaller study a week or so ago I attempted a larger version in watercolour, this one is 66 x 22.5cm. I’m still pondering and dithering as to whether this is the final version or whether it should be in oils Actually, I quite like the left hand wall so maybe I won’t try again.
