LEAF BY GRAEME<\/strong><\/p>\n If I could choose a leaf to paint But with veins and pores and chlorophyl Along one edge, I’d paint a drop It wouldn’t be just any leaf Around the leaf I’d paint a sky A house, a path, a road, a train, If finally, if you’d look close Beyond the Leaf, the glade and sky
\nI’d paint a Leaf by Niggle
\nIt wouldn’t be a sketchy scrawl
\nIt wouldn’t be a squiggle<\/p>\n
\nA stem and ribs and branch
\nIt would have a soft bright sheen
\nI’d not leave that to chance<\/p>\n
\nOf water sifting light
\nAnd beads of dew along the stem
\nRefracting morning light<\/p>\n
\nBut a bright green leaf by Niggle
\nSo enchanting to the eye
\nYou’d not suppress a giggle
\nOf delight
\nAt such a sight<\/p>\n
\nA forest, a horizon
\nI’d paint brisk clouds layer upon layer
\nSuch as you’d never set eyes on<\/p>\n
\nThe moon, the stars, the sun
\nYour reflections in the water drop
\nA different one for each or you
\nThere, it’s done
\nAnd just for fun<\/p>\n
\nYou’d make out far away
\nA silhouette, with brush in hand
\nA little shy
\nAgainst the sky<\/p>\n
\nJust off the path and lost in thought
\nAdmiring dewdrops on the grass
\nThat’s where you’d find me.<\/p>\n
