I thought at first it had picked up a bug, as there have been quite a few knocking about lately, but in the end it looks like it could have been a hardware failure. So after staring at a blue screen with a list of files currently being deleted (apparently it deleted them for safety reasons as it thought they were corrupt), I tried to reinstall the system software but it did not seem to like that, perhaps I hurt it&#8217;s feelings \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Now I have the decision to either replace the laptop, which is going to be expensive (not that I can afford an Apple which would solve a lot of problems); or I can try buying a new hard drive and doing a fresh install of everything &#8211; however given the age of the laptop it could end up as a false economy.
