Tangents are quite interesting at times, and also quite frustrating. I sat down to paint the Hobbits returning to Bag End during the Scouring of the Shire, I wasn’t too impressed with the grassy hill but hey, it’s grass, it’s difficult π the sheds went fine, in fact I was quite happy to paint them* the foreground was a mixed bag but went okay in the end. It’s when I turned to the Hobbits that things went askew, they wouldn’t stand still, or stood in awkward positions, one gained height, and another had hair issues…. in the end the painting…

Four dwarves arriving at Bag End, straight from the book π I may paint them differently in twelve months of course π This was a large watercolour which I stopped and started too many times, lost my way, forgot what I was doing, but I got there in the end π (The majority is watercolour, but there’s a touch of gouache, some coloured pencil, and a bit of Photoshop included for good measure).
