Tolkien and his works has been on my mind more than usual this week following the death of Christopher Tolkien, so I ended up scribbling Gandalf sketches, Gandalf hats, his staff…. you get the idea 😉 anyway, I decided I needed to practice sketching robes and folds in clothing a bit more so used the Hobbit movie poster as a reference for a Gandalf sketch. Now I need to start from scratch again and work on a larger Gandalf illustration, I just need to wake up and get some energy…

Started off doodling on a large sheet of paper to practice some sketching techniques, and the doodle grew and grew until I finished off a drawing of Castlerigg Stone Circle – normally I just focus on a stone or two so completing the full circle is unusual for me 😉

So…. Ο ναός που οι Αθηναίοι αφιέρωσαν στην προστάτιδα της πόλης τους, Αθηνά Παρθένο, είναι το λαμπρότερο δημιούργημα της αθηναϊκής δημοκρατίας στην περίοδο της μεγάλης ακμής της και το αρτιότερο ως προς τη σύνθεση και την εκτέλεση από τα οικοδομήματα του Ιερού Βράχου. Κτίσθηκε κατά τα έτη 447-438 π.Χ., στο πλαίσιο του ευρύτερου οικοδομικού προγράμματος που συντελέσθηκε στην Ακρόπολη με πρωτοβουλία του Περικλή, και πάνω στη θέση παλαιότερων ναών αφιερωμένων στην Αθηνά. Ο Περίκλειος Παρθενών (Παρθενών ΙΙΙ) διαδέχθηκε έναν προηγούμενο ναό, το μαρμάρινο Προπαρθενώνα (Παρθενών ΙΙ), που άρχισε να κτίζεται…
