It’s strange how the mind works, I started sketching a sea arch, though I don’t know why 😉 anyway, the rocks kept growing and the sketch changed from a sea scene to Gandalf starting one of his dark journeys…

I’ve been pondering Rivendell, or mainly the architecture of the main building, the only way I could really get it sorted in my head was to try and paint it. I had more fun doing the cliffs than the building itself – but that’s the way things go sometimes. I ended up using photoshop to correct a couple of bits of landscape and add some more mist.

It’s horsey time for the theme of the month over on John Howe’s website, or rather it’s Saddle Up – as I’m not brilliant at drawing horses I opted for a more graphical approach and decided to try and paint some flags on display many years after the Return of the King 😉 I started off painting this in watercolour but it didn’t go well so went digital…
