In 1159 John of Salisbury wrote “Bernard of Chartres used to say that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.”

Some scenes lend themselves to the moonlight more than others, when I decided to paint a couple of Moon orientated paintings trying to capture the magic of a moonlit Castlerigg Stone Circle was something that sprang to mind almost straight away. Well, to be honest my thoughts went along the lines of – moonlit Shire… moonlit stone circle, having painted the Shire in moonlight it was time to attempt a stone circle.
