I sat down to paint the Hobbits returning to Bag End during the Scouring of the Shire, I wasn’t too impressed with the grassy hill but hey, it’s grass, it’s difficult π the sheds went fine, in fact I was quite happy to paint them* the foreground was a mixed bag but went okay in the end. It’s when I turned to the Hobbits that things went askew, they wouldn’t stand still, or stood in awkward positions, one gained height, and another had hair issues…. in the end the painting…

I’ve intended for some time to paint Niggle as he rides through the storm to find a doctor for his neighbour, it has always been a large oil painting in my head, but before I start I thought I should try and get my ideas together on the computer π For those that are yet to read the book, shame on you π it’s worth a read…

Carrying on from the Stormcrow post the other day I went with Gandalf sheltering from the storm, somewhere in Middle Earth (just a few miles down the road from Bree). I did borrow a reference image for the tree π I’m not all that happy with the right arm, hand, lower legs, head tilt, but I’m not changing it now π Edit – I decided to play with this in After Effects π
