This started out as a larger piece, with distant hills creating a shaft of light from the setting sun, I didn’t like it though (being pickier than usual which is saying something ;-)). Anyway, I took the pen & ink thrush added a bit of background texture then played with type for a while….

Falling
I had this random idea to draw/paint a selection of waterfalls from around Cumbria, so to get some practice in I found a random waterfall image from the area and started a pen and ink piece, along the way I decided to add some watercolour washes then shade it a bit more in Photoshop. Now I need to get a canvas, some oil paints and try to do the scene properly 😉

Working towards a Durin’s Stone/Mirrormere painting, I enjoyed Celebdil, Fanuidhol, Caradhras (though one wasn’t as defined as I wanted it to be ;-)). The Dimrill Stair was somewhere I could have spent a week or two, then the foreground was a bit of a trial. The reflection in Mirrormere was put in using Photoshop in the end and I also added a bit of mist at that point. Looking forward to trying this scene in a larger format in oil, though I need to sketch Durin’s Stone a few more times…

Playing with type, heads not working well enough to go to the workshop, and watercolour board is too expensive to play with 😉 I had a list of Douglas Adams quotes somewhere I was going to play around with, not sure where it went to, it’ll be carefully filed somewhere 😉
