Whilst out for an early morning wander with Hugo I noticed Venus, Mars and Jupiter rising above the Pennines with the almost full Moon illuminating the foreground, so I wandered back to the house for the camera and tripod and went back out π There’s a larger version with labels here > link.

Driving home this morning I decided to take a couple of photographs to show how bad light pollution in this area has become. Farms are now lit up brighter than Blackpool and Penrith is bathed in such a horrendous glow I’m surprised there’s any wildlife left. I set out this morning to take a couple of early photographs, it wasn’t too early to be out but it was cold. Still, I ended up getting carried away just a bit and decided to try for a panoramic of the stars & planets above the Eden Valley. There was the odd bit of cloud about but not enough to stop me trying, photographing the panoramic took only a few minutes, stitching it together was another matter π click on photograph above for larger version.
