Looking Down
I thought I’d paint another landscape as it’s been a while since I’ve worked on one, so I decided on the view looking down over Buttermere and Crummock. The intention when I started was to block a few areas in with acrylic to get the feel of the piece then finish it in oils, in the end I used acrylics for the entire painting as it was ‘working’ at the time. Given it is supposed to be summer we’ve had far too many cloudy grey sky days recently. I’d been hoping for some nice summer days to get out with the camera and sketch book, and whilst there have been some nice days they’ve been too few for my liking π So, given the weather wasn’t playing nice I decided to make the best of it and try to use the clouds and patchy light to my advantage.

The other day I was wandering down the river, not by the river of course, we’ve been walking in the river to cool Hugo off. Anyway, I noticed the light coming through the trees looked rather nice so decided to try and capture it π whilst I liked the colour version of the photograph I much preferred this black and white version.
