On our trip over the border we were lucky enough to have a couple of nights where the sky was amazing clear, it would have been wrong not to take a couple of photographs π

I’ve had a few ideas for star filled paintings recently, mainly they’ve been science fiction with sleek space ships zooming around. However the other day I returned to a Tolkien theme of Hobbits wandering under a star filled sky. The main aim was to make the Hobbits just visible enough to be in the painting yet make it believable that they were wandering under the stars with little to no Moon to illuminate the scene. Our day started far too early as we walked to the end of the lane to see if we could get the car up the hill. There turned out to be far too much snow to bother attempting it so we returned home, decided to take a quick photo of Cassiopeia over the snowy trees… Then I waited for it to get a bit lighter before venturing out again π

Well, another first of the season anyway. Last night (or rather early early this morning) I decided to take a couple of night sky photographs, I was at work so I could not move far (well I could stand at the bottom of the steps at work and still hear the phone ring so that was my range ;-)).
